'Won't you invite me in?' Her question brought me back to my senses. Without uttering a word, I moved to the side of the door so she may have her way in. She moved in with her eyes ransacking every parts of my room.
She said she like the design and the arrangement and I thanked her for her comments. I asked for the venue and she told me it is one hotel. I was expecting it to be an hostel, but I concealed my thought. "Who is the celebrant?" I asked. She told me it is one of her class girls.
She asked if am ready and I said yes. I combed my hair and we set to leave. I asked her when we would be coming back and she told me we are having the party overnight.
We stood at the gate for over five minutes before we could get a taxi to Venus hotel. I brought out my phone and kept myself busy with it throughout the firsr ten minutes of the ride. She didn't care to stop the silence as she was also busy with her phone.
"What's your relationship with wole?" She asked at the time I least expected it. I was about to start a chat with Bimbo. 'Wole is a street brother to me, and also my senior in all the schools I have ever attended.' I answered. 'Wow! I guess you choose this school because of him' she asked laughing. 'Even the course' I replied with a smile. She asked some other questions about me and that led to an interesting discussion as we both joked and laughed. I forgot about my phone and the chat i was about to initiate as we were getting along.
Twenty five minutes later, we got to the hotel and she paid the transport fare. I wanted to pay, but she declined. We were challenged at the gate, so Bisi brought out a card and showed it to them. I didn't even know the content of the card, but I was also allowed in and we were both directed to the exact hall for the program.
I asked her why i wasn't challenged, and she told me that every guest is expected to come with a partner, probably the one he it she is dating. I asked her why she choose me and she said she had no one to chose. "So, I will be your boo tonight?" I teased. "Just tonight!" she answered with a smile and stretched her hand for me to hold. I didn't not hesitate to grab the opportunity as we match into the hall.
We were welcomed with "Omo baba olowo" by Davido as the sound filled the whole atmosphere. It was even a bit difficult to hear what the person beside you is saying.
There were lots of people but it wasn't easy to see their faces clearly due to the lighting system. The space was illuminated with different colours of bulbs as some were fixed, some were blinking and the rest were moving. I spotted three of my classmates; two girls and a guy, but I guess I wasn't noticed. There were some other familiar faces, but i could not recollect where we met. Bisi suggested we dance before the program starts and I obliged. As we were dancing, a guy came between us and faced Bisi, but she ignored him and came back to me. The guys tried again but he relented when his efforts seemed to be in vain. The guy went back to with some other guys that isolated themselves at one corner of the hall.
As I was still enjoying the moment with Bisi, a lady came to her side and they hugged themselves with joy. I was surprised I know the lady, she was the lady I helped out earlier at the ATM stand. "OMG!!! She is also here." I said to myself. After the long term hug coupled with some gists, which I didn't hear. Bisi said to the lady "Shade, meet my friend, Kunle"
I could read a a bit of surprise in Shade's look, but Bisi was totally ignorant of our thoughts as she said to me. "Kunle, meet shade; the celebrant"
"So, she is the celebrant?" I asked with obvious surprise written all over me. "Yes, I am!" She said
affirmatively.
