FIFA appoints a no-nonsense referee for world cup final

FIFA have named no-nonsense referee Nestor Pitana for 2018 World Cup final between France and Croatia on Sunday at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.

The 43-year-old Argentina who is a physical education teacher has already officiated four matches in this summer tournament in Russia.

Pitana has officiated the opening game of the world cup between Russia and Saudi Arabia and was in charge for Sweden's win over Mexico, Croatia's victory over Denmark in the last 16 and France's quarter-final success against Uruguay.

The former actor is joined by assistant referees Hernan Maidana and Juan Belatti, as well as fourth official Bjorn Kuipers.

Pitana becomes the second Argentinian referee to officiate a World Cup final after Horacio Elizondo, who took charge of Italy's 2006 triumph over France in Berlin.
