The police on Thursday accused two pregnant women, Mimi Abbas, 21 and Sofia Sulaiman, 25, in a Karu Grade I Area Court in Abuja for stealing four plasma TV sets.

Abbas and Sulaiman, who live in Masaka, the state of Nasarawa, were summoned for a two-team team that borders on joint action and theft, the offense they denied having committed.

The prosecutor, Edwin Ochayi, told the court that a Mrs. Favor Eyo from Millipat Lodge, Airport Road in Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuye Police Station in Abuja on April 14, around 11:30.

He said that the complainant alleged that the accused who were guests at the lodge, stole four plasma televisions on April 13, worth N260,000.

"Although one of the televisions along Airport Road was found, the suspects were traced and arrested on April 15 in Masaka and confessed that they had committed the crime," said Ochayi.

He added that it was the fifth time, Suleiman, that the second accused committed a similar offense.

According to the public prosecutor, the offense is in violation of and punishable under Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Hassan Ishaq, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one deposit in the same sum.

Ishag also ordered the guarantor to write a letter of promise that the accused would not commit any new offense.

He adjourned the case until May 16 for hearing.
