    Man Sentenced To Jail For Romance Scam And Cheating

    The  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, obtained the conviction of Ikechukwu Elom Awoke on Thursday, May 3, 2018, for justice AY Sanya of the Supreme Court of the state of Borno, Maiduguri, on a modified two-tier that borders on conspiracy and cheating tune of N350,000 (three hundred and fifty thousand naira).

    He was sentenced to six months in prison with a fine of N50,000 for conspiracy on imprisonment of one and eighteen months with a fine of N50,000 for cheating on count two.

    The case was triggered by a petition of August 16, 2017 by a Noami Wanya, who claimed that she had met the convict through Facebook and entered into a relationship in the process with the goal of marrying each other.

    In the course of the relationship, Awoke fraudulently obtained N350,000 from the petitioner via his account located in one of the old generation's banks, whereby the victim submits a petition to the EFCC. The offense is in violation of and punishable under Sections 320 (a) and 322 of the Criminal Code 102, Laws of the State of Borno.

    Awoke pleaded guilty to the two counts and was convicted and sentenced by the court after reviewing the facts of the case.
