Man Remanded In Prison For Attempting To Rape 110-Year-Old Woman In Ekiti

A 56-year-old man, Abraham Benjamin, was sentenced on Thursday in prison by an Ado Magistrates' Court in Ado Ekiti for allegedly trying to rape a 110-year-old woman in her home.

The magistrate, Ms. Taiwo Ajibade, who gave the order, said the accused stayed behind in the bars awaiting advice from the public prosecutor's office (DPP).

However, Ajibade has directed that the file must be duplicated and a copy sent to the DPP for advice.

The prosecutor had earlier, Insp. Caleb Leranmo had told the court that the suspect had committed the crime on April 30 at number 12, Igbehin St., in the capital of the state.

According to him, the defendant tried to rape the 110-year-old woman in her house.

The crime, according to the prosecutor, violated Article 359 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

The case was adjourned until 22 May to be mentioned.
