    Yuletide Season : Oil Marketers Withdrew Threat Of Halting Sales Of Fuel

    Fears of impending fuel scarcity during the Yelutide season was on Thursday averted as oil marketers withdrew threat of halting sales of the fuel.
    The marketers took the decision after a meeting with the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), where issues that culminated to the fuel scarcity threat was discussed.
    The meeting, which held in Abuja, also had the Debt Management Office (DMO) in attendance.
    Apparently dousing the apprehension the issue had generated among Nigerians, Ahmed who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, disclosed that the marketers have agreed to keep all depots working to avert scarcity.
    The minister who took to the ministry’s page to make the disclosure that Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) will be available throughout Yelutide season and discouraged panic buying of the product.
    “Minister of Finance, represented by PSF, CBN, DMO and others met and agreed with the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Independent Petroleum Marketers, that operations at depots and sales will continue.
    “Oil marketers have all agreed that operations at all depots and sales will continue unhindered.
    “Members of the general public are are hereby reassured of the availability of PMS as there would be no fuel scarcity.”
    She added that “engagements between the FG and marketers will continue.”
    Apprehension had gripped Nigerians after marketers gave a 7-day notice of shutting down operations, stirring scares of a looking fuel scarcity during the yelutide season.
    The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had signed an agreement with British Petroleum to keep supply of the product through Christmas and new year celebrations.
