Fayemi revokes education levies in Ekiti primary, secondary schools

Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi has undo the policy of his predecessor, Ayodele Fayose, which levied students in primary and secondary schools in the state.
Under Fayemi, students are required to pay education levies that ranges from N2000 upward. The policy attracted diverse views, including that of then opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) who questioned the basis for the request.
Shortly after taken oath of office last Tuesday, October 16, 2018, Fayemi declared free education for primary and secondary school students in the state, saying under him, students would not be required to pay education levy to attend school.
He condemned Fayose for initiating the education levies, contending that the policy has increased the number of out-of-school children in the state.
Apparently walking his talk, Fayemi on Wednesday signed an executive bill which revoked education levies for primary and secondary students, restating his administration commitment to encourage more enrolment in schools.
He noted that education is a priority for children in the state, adding that any factor that could impede access to education would not be tolerated by his government.
