LAUTECH 12: NANS Vowed Mass Action If Students Are Not Reinstated
A showdown seem imminent between students from Southwest states and the management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) unless the disciplinary action slammed on 12 students of the institution is reversed.
On Wednesday, LAUTECH Registrar, J. A. Agboola conveyed the decision of the Senate of the school over crisis that broke out recently, announcing 12 students, including Adeoti AbdulAfeez Olatunbosun, for disciplinary action, which ranges from expulsion to suspension for certain periods.
But NANS ZONE D, the umbrella body of students union in Southwest, condemned LAUTECH decision as an attempt to gag future leaders from freely expressing themselves, asking the school to reverse disciplinary actions on the students or face mass action.
Describing the decision to suspend and expel the students as unlawful, which won’t stand, the students body handed an ultimatum on LAUTECH to recall the concerned students or forced a halt on activities in the school with protests.
“The unlawful rustication and suspension is dead on arrival and it is condemned as soon as we received the news and all measures would be put in place to ensure that justice is achieved,” the statement reads.
“It is quite unfortunate that Nigerian students can no more express their opinions again on campuses without ending up been victims of oppression and victimisation.
“The loss we have suffered by losing many potential ever gallant and vibrant Comrades to rustication, expulsion, suspension and the likes cannot be withstood anymore.
“We so consider the decision of LAUTECH Management very repugnant to the principle of natural justice, equity, good conscience and peaceful coexistence.
“We therefore condemn in totality this attempt to gag the future leaders in this era of NOT TOO YOUNG TO RULE.
“In that vein, the Secretariat Of NANS ZONE D will be moved to the LAUTEC coming Monday 30th of July 2018.
To demand and declare a Mass Action ****Operation Reinstate back LAUTEC*12* Unconditionally or else over 40million Nigerian Students will be on the street and shut down the activities of the school till our voice been heard by the school management in other to arrest this ugly situation.
“Convergence point and Time shall be communicated in due time.
“And at the end, we will all be glad and excited that LAUTECH*12* shall be reinstated unconditionally!”
