President Buhari Orders Recruitment Of 6,000 Policemen

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the hiring of 6,000 additional police officers as part of recent measures to address the nation's security challenges, including confrontations between pastors and ranchers across the country.

The president announced it in a special interview session with the Voice of America service, Hausa, in Washington, United States, on Tuesday.

Buhari, who is on an official visit to the US, revealed that additional security measures are currently needed in the nation.

"We are going to implement more measures to check insecurity in the country, including increasing the number of police officers and training them.

"I have approved the procurement of 6,000 police officers by the police authorities and I indicated that the recruits must come from all 776 local government areas of the federation.

"Even if that means recruiting a person each of the 776, they should do this instead of going to motorized parks, railway stations or the market for hiring.

"I gave (the police authorities) this directive," he said.
