Dino Melaye Admitted To Police Medical Center, Challenges Court Ruling
The spokesperson for Senator Dino Melaye, Gideon Ayodele, has revealed that his director is currently staying at the police medical center in Lokoja, the capital of the Kogi state.
This is the result of the decision of a magistrates' court to keep the legislator under police custody for six weeks.
Ayodele told Concise News that the lawyers of Melaye would file the rights of fundamental rights with the Federal Supreme Court, Lokoja, on Friday against the ruling of the court.
The legislator's spokesman said the lawyers were of the opinion that the decision to detain Melaye in pre-trial detention was not correct.
Ayodele noted that the team would make every effort to ensure that Melaye did not spend six weeks.
He said: "It is important that we approach the Federal Supreme Court tomorrow morning."
The police sued Melaye on Thursday for a chief magistrate in Lokoja on seven points of criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms.
Sulyman Abdullah, a high magistrate in his ruling, said that Melaye must be held in pre-trial detention until June 11, but the police inspector general must provide essential information for his health.
